Sight
words are important for students to master, especially Kindergarten students.
Being able to quickly read and recognize sight words improves reading fluency
and automaticity. Plus many sight words don’t follow the rules and make it hard
to sound them out.
Each
day during Reading Workshop, students complete Word Work. This is where they
practice recognizing, reading and writing their sight words.

I am
always nervous that my students may be bored, however even the simplest ideas to practice never seem to tire them! And of course the more
practice the better! When students are confident in sight word reading,
they become more eager and confident in their reading all together!
